ABOUT ME
I’m Giles — WSET qualified, obsessively curious about wine, and based right here in Avebury. I’ve spent 25 years in hospitality, dined at Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and sat on the other side of the table watching great sommeliers do their thing. What I learnt is this: the best wine experience isn’t about impressing people — it’s about connecting them to something they didn’t know they’d love.
That’s what Wiltshire Wine is built on. Whether I’m guiding a tasting in a village hall or helping you choose a bottle for a special occasion, I bring the same genuine passion and zero snobbery.

Your personal wine guide, on demand.
Stuck in a rut with the same old bottles? Not sure what to take to a dinner party, or what to pair with what you’re cooking? That’s exactly what the Wiltshire Wine concierge service is for. Tell me what you like, what you’re eating, or what the occasion is — and I’ll find you something genuinely brilliant.

The Lazy Person’s Guide to Finding Wines You Love “I don’t like Chardonnay.” I hear this at almost every tasting I run. Said with absolute certainty, as if the verdict is in and the case is closed. And every single time I hear it, I think the same thing: I bet you do, you just…

Half my life was spent in the tropics. It’s always a variation of summer. Almost all my drinks came ice cold, all the time. One thing you learn from living that lifestyle is that some drinks hold up to being really cold and some don’t. Some have enough oomph behind them to take it. Now…

Paul Hobbs doesn’t own the land he’s most famous for. He just makes the wine extraordinary anyway. It was mid to late 2008. Dinner out at one of my favourite restaurants with some of my favourite people, my now wife Sam and her good friend Greg. We were celebrating Greg’s birthday. Luca was a great…

And I Have a Bar in the Cayman Islands to Thank for That. There was a bar in Grand Cayman called the Lone Star. It doesn’t exist anymore, which is a shame, because places like that don’t get built on purpose. It was run by a real Texan, the kind who understood hospitality not as…

How to Choose Without Stress It’s so easy to overthink wine in any situation. Some people grab whatever they always buy without a second thought, others stand paralysed in the wine aisle for twenty minutes staring at labels they don’t recognise. This is for the second group. Here’s everything you need to walk in with…
