ABOUT ME
I’m Giles — WSET qualified, obsessively curious about wine, and based right here in Avebury. I’ve spent 25 years in hospitality, dined at Michelin-starred restaurants around the world, and sat on the other side of the table watching great sommeliers do their thing. What I learnt is this: the best wine experience isn’t about impressing people — it’s about connecting them to something they didn’t know they’d love.
That’s what Wiltshire Wine is built on. Whether I’m guiding a tasting in a village hall or helping you choose a bottle for a special occasion, I bring the same genuine passion and zero snobbery.

Your personal wine guide, on demand.
Stuck in a rut with the same old bottles? Not sure what to take to a dinner party, or what to pair with what you’re cooking? That’s exactly what the Wiltshire Wine concierge service is for. Tell me what you like, what you’re eating, or what the occasion is — and I’ll find you something genuinely brilliant.

Thinking about booking a private wine tasting in Wiltshire? Here’s everything you need to know — from what actually happens to how many people you need and what it costs.

What are Super Tuscans and why do they matter? Giles Shaxted explores the rebel wines of Italy that broke the rules and became legends — including Grattamacco and Dogajolo.

Colder weather doesn’t just mean red wine. There are some amazing examples of warming whites. Normally these tend to be a bit pricier, but they do not have to be. Some examples could be a Pouilly Fuisse and Puligny Montrachet. Chablis is probably the most known name in White Burgundy. But in my opinion mostly…

With colder weather our wine glasses start to get filled with more red wine. The bigger the better in these winter months to go with beefy stews, or roast dinners. But you don’t always need the excuse of a good meal to enjoy a big read. Our most recent tasting was paired with chocolate and…
